Some Thoughts About The Biggest Bang

I was kind of disappointed by my work on this book but I changed my mind during the last year...

In the Bigger Bang, the first book we did with D.J. Kirkbride I was more involved in the story asking for scenes or even adding elements to scenes.

Like the eggs sequence.

In this one I left the story to D.J. I felt like I owed it to him since we never used full scripts and I wanted to be responsible for the pacing myself.

Although his story and dialogues was so great in this one, very sophisticated and emotional.

The story for the Bang books was never brainless action anyway.

While I drew the second book my life was a mess. Not happy with my personal life involved in a crazy relationship that it could become a crazy book and I might do a crazy book inspired by the events one day...

But as I said this second book I really start to like it and maybe prefer it from the first one..

The first chapter had to be redrawn two weeks before deadline since we had to remove six pages of a flashback scene. That changed the pacing of the whole issue and I had this nonsensical decision to redraw the whole book. So... I also changed the style a bit with more clean lines and a bit different coloring.

The star gazing sequence is the only thing kept from the first version of the drawn pages...

Wyan s design was pretty much based on the girl I lived with that period...

The general style of this second series is a love letter to some nineties artists from Image comics that I liked...the Lees , Liefelds , Kieths and McFarlanes althought sawn through my own loose and weird filter...

The nine panel grid here on the above page is a reference to the nine grid panel used in the egg sequence on the first book..

Always wanted to use lots of white space instead of blacks...

The book was also a homage to the great western characters that Loene had in his films...something D.J. and I discussed a lot at the period...

In general the book is like a strange journal of the years I drew the story... and very personal in its own way...

I know D.J. is more satisfied with our work on this one more than the first one something I didn t undrstood first...

The book made it into some lists of the best comics of that year and even the covers were very well received critically....

Glad people liked these Bang books it means everything to me...
